What You’ll Learn
This camp is designed to give you the tools to hear jazz on a deeper level. Whether you’re a musician or a curious listener, learning how to listen transforms the experience.
You’ll discover:
- How to hear and understand the roles of different instruments in a jazz group
- How form and structure shape a tune — and how to follow along
- How to listen for improvisation, interaction, and the unique voice of each player
- The defining characteristics of jazz genres and styles (blues, bebop, bossa, hard bop, modal, fusion, smooth jazz, and more)
- Why artists like Louis Armstrong, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, and Pat Metheny shaped not just jazz, but music itself
This course is equally valuable for players who want to deepen their musicianship and non-musicians who want to connect with jazz on a more meaningful level.
